North America's raccoon is depicted as a 3D cross stitch animal. I have a huge fondness for these creatures. I know they like to get into trash and make a mess, but just look at their faces! And those hands! They really are remarkable creatures and have proven to be highly adaptable and successful in surviving our encroachment into their habitat.

I like accuracy in plush animals and have made the markings and eyes like that of real raccoons. The coloration of his coat is created using blended flosses (several different colors in the needle at the same time). And the cheeks and tail are made to look fluffy by using a turkey work stitch. Why use cross stitch?  Because cross stitch allows me to make tiny details that would be difficult to do by another method.   Who says that cross stitch is only good for flat things?  Now you can stitch a doll using cross stitch for the details.

The animal is stitched as 18 pieces which are then cut out and sewn together.  Full assembly directions with illustrations are included.

Finished size is approximately 6" tall x 13" wide from nose tip to the tip of his tail when worked on 14 count fabric.  The pattern uses 13 colors.

Design contains no fractional stitches, a few backstitches and some turkey work stitches, appropriate for an intermediate stitcher. Pattern may be worked on different count fabric which will result in a different sized finished product.
