I love carousel horses! Ever since I was a child I've adored these beautiful creations whirling around and around. I love their intricate and ornate tack and brilliant colors. So I simply had to make a 3D one. This fellow is based on an actual carousel horse, carved by the  Dentzel Company in 1875. His flanks are covered with ribbons adorned with jingle bells and the saddle skirt is divided into lavender and hot pink quadrants. The saddle blanket has a spray of golden flowers which is repeated on one side of his bridle.

I like accuracy in plush animals and have made the markings and eyes like that of real horses.  Why use cross stitch?  Because cross stitch allows me to make tiny details that would be difficult to do by another method. Who says that cross stitch is only good for flat things?  Now you can stitch a doll using cross stitch for the details.

The animal is stitched as 16 pieces which are then cut out and sewn together. The mane and tail are added by latch hooking floss to the finished animal. The pole can be made using a painted wood dowel or (as I did) a piece of brass tubing. Full assembly directions with illustrations are included.

This pattern was hand designed by a professional artist/crafts person
Finished size is approximately 8" tall to top of his ears x 7" wide from nose tip to back of tail when worked on 14 count fabric.  The image is composed of 20 colors.

THIS IS NOT A KIT. THIS IS NOT A FINISHED PIECE.
