This pattern depicts the thought experiment devised in 1935 by Erwin Schrodinger. The experiment was used to illustrate a problem he saw with quantum mechanics. The experiment involves a cat placed in a sealed box and depending on a random event, the cat is either alive or dead. Quantum mechanics would have the cat be both alive and dead.
